Top 5 Lesbian Movies to Watch With Your Sweetie

Published by joliedupre2 under lesbian movies Edit This

bound.jpg

There’s nothing quite as fun as snuggling up with your sweetie to watch a movie at home.  If you’re a lesbian, you may want to make one of these five lesbian movies a must watch for one of those cold winter nights.  Seen them all?  There’s so good, you’ll want to watch them again!

1.  BOUND (1996)

The sexual chemistry in Bound reaches an inferno that you’ll never forget.  It stars Jennifer Tilly as Violet and Gina Gershon as Corky.  The ladies concoct a scheme to steal money, and you’ll find yourself rooting for them every step of the way.

2. The Killing of Sister George (1968)

Robert Aldrich directs this comedy drama that was nominated for a Golden Globe.  Often overlooked in the lesbian genre, The Killing of Sister George provides excellent performances by Beryl Reid, Susannah  York and Coral Browne.

3. Desert Hearts (1985)

You’ll highly enjoy this excellent desert love story between Vivian Bell, played by Helen Shaver and Cay Rivers, played by Patricia Charbonneau.  Like Bound, if you’ve seen Desert Hearts a million times, you never tire of seeing it again.  The love scenes between Vivian and Cay are famous.

4. Better Than Chocolate (1999)

What happens when a young, attractive lesbian meets the woman of her dreams, and they move in together?  Life would be great, except for unexpected events.  This romance, comedy stars Karin Dwyer and Christina Cox as the young lovers.

5. If These Walls Could Talk 2 (2000)

This is a made for TV movie based on the lives of lesbians during three different decades.  The setting is focused on one home and the three lesbian families that lived in the home during the three decades.  You will find excellent performances, especially by Vanessa Redgrave, Michelle Williams, Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres.

Four Things Not to Do at an Online Lesbian Dating Site

Published by joliedupre2 under Lesbian dating Edit This

lesbian192.jpg

You’ve made the decision to join an online lesbian dating site.  Good for you!  Finding that special woman online makes perfect sense in today’s times.  However, when you join a lesbian dating site, you should start out right.  Here are four things not to do at an online lesbian dating site:

1. Upload a photo that does not represent the present you.

Honesty at an online lesbian dating site is very important.  You may be tempted to upload a photo of you from 10 years ago.  However, if your body has changed significantly since then, you’re not being honest.  No matter how you look now, upload a photo that depicts the true you.  There are lesbian women out there who will like you for you - and you’ll be glad you were honest from the start.

2. Post your information and then do nothing else.

When you join a lesbian dating site you are not required to check back in - but you should.  Your chances of success are greater that way.  Participate in the forums.  Periodically check for new women and new information.  Don’t just “wait by the phone.”

3. Lying to your potential connection.

Once you make a connection, it is important to keep your online communication honest.  Don’t tell her you’re a guitar player if you’ve never picked one up.  Don’t tell her you travel a lot if you rarely leave your state.  Keep it honest, and you won’t have to backpedal later on.

4.   Quitting too soon.

Many women who join a lesbian dating site want instant results.  If they don’t get the results they want - they quit.  That’s a mistake.  When you join a lesbian dating site you need to give it time.  If you are doing the things you need to do to meet a woman - keeping a sense of humor, remaining honest, staying active at the site, uploading the right photos - you’ll eventually meet with success.

Published by joliedupre2 under Lesbian travel Edit This

If you live in an area that is cold in winter, you may want to get away from the cold for a while.  Gays and lesbians will find that Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is a great choice.  In addition to the fact that Puerto Vallarta has on average 245 days of sunshine, PV is one of the most popular gay and lesbian travel destinations.

Puerto Vallarta is located in Jalisco, Mexico, along the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía de Banderas.  There is an area in PV called Zona Romantica or the Romantic Zone.  It has become a great place for gays and lesbians to relax and feel comfortable.

While in Puerto Vallarta, check out Diana’s Tours.  This is a tour boat that is owned by Diana DeCoste.  It is a gay and lesbian tour boat that is straight friendly.  (No minors allowed.)

Diana offers full day tours and also private charters.  Her full day tour sounds like a delight that includes an entire day at sea.  You’ll enjoy a continental breakfast, snacks and unlimited beer with an open bar .  In addition, there’s even lunch on shore.  (There’s nothing like having lunch on the beach.)  The tour also offers snorkeling and a post cruise cocktail at the famous gay and lesbian location - The Blue Chairs.  The Blue Chairs is a hotel located right on the beach!

Diana’s Tours is a very popular boat tour in its ninth year.  Book now, as many 2009 peak season dates are already sold out!

Five Ways a Lesbian Online Dating Site Can Save You Time

Published by joliedupre2 under Lesbian dating Edit This

There’s a new way to date in the 21st century, and that’s online. What was once considered an act of desperation is now a respectable way to meet that special someone. You will find many online dating sites available. If you are a woman seeking a woman, an online dating site especially for lesbian women is your best choice.

Online dating sites save you time, and here are five reasons why:

1. If you are a female seeking a female, a lesbian online dating site will put you in contact with other lesbians. You don’t have to waste your time looking for women who identify as lesbian. An online dating site will bring you right to them. You don’t have to deal with men. You don’t have to deal with women who are not lesbians.

2. If you are a female seeking a female, a lesbian online dating site will put you in contact with lesbians who fit what you’re looking for. Are you looking for an ultra femme? Are you seeking a stone butch? Read the profiles and look at the photos of the lesbians in the dating site to narrow down the choices. Then, focus your attention on getting what you want!

3. If you are a female seeking a female, a lesbian online dating site will prevent you from having to look in lesbian bars, lesbian community centers, feminist bookstores, lesbian coffee shops and other places where lesbians may hang out. It’s fun to visit these places, but if your agenda is to meet a woman, it can be hard work. What if the woman you have your eyes on is already in a relationship and is quite happy there? With an online dating site, you simply pop on your computer and visit the dating site. This method takes work too, but at least you know that the women at the site are interested in the same thing - meeting women.

4. If you are a female seeking a female, a lesbian online dating site will let you ease into a situation instead of investing too much too soon. Your time is valuable. By looking online, you can start by posting a few words and then moving from there. Once you make that connection, you can move into phone calls and eventually meeting up.

5. If you are a female seeking a female, a lesbian online dating site will allow you to post your information and then wait for responses. Your chances of success are greater if you log-in frequently, but if you really don’t have the time, create an excellent profile and see who contacts you!

Women and Cholesterol

Published by joliedupre2 under Health Edit This

It is generally agreed that if you are over the age of 20, you should have your cholesterol levels checked.  Around the age of 20, they say, is when cholesterol levels begin to go up.  Also, when a woman is in menopause, her LDL cholesterol level goes up.  That’s because estrogen lowers LDL.  When a woman is in menopause her levels of estrogen are lower.   A woman who has high cholesterol levels is at an increased risk of getting heart disease.  Unfortunately, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.

I recently had my cholesterol levels checked.  The procedure is simple.  The nurse pricked my finger and took a sample of my blood.   A cholesterol test will check the following:

1. Your total blood cholesterol level.  This number should be 200 or less.

2. Your HDL - which is your good cholesterol level.  This number should be 50-60 or higher.  The higher the number, the better.

3. Your LDL - or your bad cholesterol level.  This number should be less than 100.

4.  Your Triglyceride level - which should be less than 150.

For more information on cholesterol levels - go HERE from the American Heart Association.

If you find that your cholesterol levels are high, what can you do to lower them?  A lot. A great thing about cholesterol is that you do have some control over your levels.  It’s important to eat foods low in saturated fat and low in cholesterol.  You’ll focus on lean meats, fish, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.  Foods like butter, cheese and whole milk are especially high in saturated fats, so avoid those.   In addition, a regular schedule of exercise also lowers cholesterol levels.  Finally, don’t smoke!

Common Lesbian Definitions

Published by joliedupre2 under Lesbian dating Edit This

glitter-graphics.com

In 2009, you’ve decided to work hard at finding the right woman. You’ve also decided to try something new - a lesbian dating site! You understand that finding the right woman is difficult to do, and that looking online opens the door to many eligible lesbian women that are looking for a relationship too.

Some lesbian women use terms to identify what type of lesbian they are. Even if you’ve considered yourself a lesbian for a long time, you may not know every term that is used to describe lesbians. Below are some of the most common terms that you are likely to encounter when you join a lesbian dating site.

Butch - A butch has a masculine appearance and mannerisms.

Soft Butch - Like a butch, but is more feminine either on the outside, inside or both. (Gina Gershon played a soft butch in Bound.)

Stone Butch - This is a butch who loves pleasing her partner, but doesn’t want to be touched sexually.

Femme - A lesbian with a feminine look and mannerisms. (Jennifer Tilly played a femme in Bound.)

Lipstick Lesbian - She’s a femme and proud of it! She not only loves makeup, but high-heels, dresses, the works!

Boi - Not to be confused with a male boi or a butch, a boi has a masculine appearance and mannerisms, but is generally younger than a butch in both appearance and mannerisms. A boi can be lesbian identified or trans-identified.

In 2009 - Write an eBook

Published by joliedupre2 under Literature Edit This

Photobucket

The Ladies Next Door - Available at Artemis Press

If you’ve always wanted to write a lesbian novel, consider writing an eBook.  What is an eBook?

“An eBook is an electronic version of a traditional print book that can be read by using a personal computer or by using an eBook reader. ” Techtarget.com

There are a number of advantages to writing your first lesbian book as an eBook.

1.  You’ll have the opportunity to work with a small publisher.

Although you may fantasize about publishing with a large, New York publisher, that’s a goal that’s difficult to reach on the first try, especially with a lesbian themed book.  This is not to say it isn’t possible, just that focusing on a small publisher is a perfectly acceptable thing to do for your first book.  A small publisher gives you the opportunity to work closer with your editorial team, which can be very beneficial for a first time author.  A small publishing company can feel like family, which helps you to not feel alone in the writing world.  Promoting a book involves a large degree of competition.  Anything that can help the struggle is always beneficial.

2. You can receive your payment sooner.

Many eBook companies do not offer an advance, but pay royalties.  However, you will find that if you make sales you can receive your royalty payments a lot faster than with a print publisher.   In addition, the percentage of your royalty check is often higher than with a print publisher.   If you receive 10 percent royalty with a print publisher, you can receive as much as 50 percent royalty with an eBook publisher.

3. You have greater control over the editorial process.

Depending on the eBook publisher, you often have more of a say as to how your book will be produced.  This becomes very apparent when you’re working with a publisher that has a small number of authors.

4. You have greater control over the cover art.

It is very common for an eBook publisher to consider your opinion when creating the cover for your book.  This is often not the case with a print publisher.

5. Ebooks are becoming more and more popular.

Today, you’ll find eBooks with major online stores, such as Amazon.com.  You can read eBooks on your computer, on an eBook reader, even on your iPhone.

Start the process by researching eBook publishers that have a focus on lesbian themes.  Some choices to consider:

Artemis Press

DLSIJ Press

Torquere Press

One excellent way to learn about eBooks is to attend an eBook convention.  EPICon 2009 is an annual eBook convention to learn everything there is to know about eBooks and how to write and promote them.  Visit the EPICon 2009 website for information.

NOTE: Jolie du Pre has a couple of important writing deadlines due this weekend, therefore Meet Her Here at Today.com will return to blog posts on Tuesday, January 13.

Are You or is Someone You Know a Lesbian Alcoholic?

Published by joliedupre2 under Health Edit This

Alcoholism is a serious condition - even more so for women.

Because men and women have different body types, when a woman drinks alcohol, she will get drunk faster than when a man drinks alcohol.   Not only that, but a woman will become addicted to alcohol faster than a man will.

What happens to a lesbian alcoholic?  She increases her risk for a variety of health problems.  These include heart disease, osteoporosis, problems with the reproductive system, ulcers, memory loss, breast cancer and more.   In addition, a female alcoholic has a greater chance of dying of a disease of the liver, such as cirrhosis, than a male alcoholic would.

For lesbian alcoholics that are pregnant, the unborn child is in serious harm.  Not only is there the danger of miscarriage, but there is the danger of fetal alcohol syndrome which cannot be reversed.

What are some of the signs that a lesbian is a lesbian alcoholic?

1. She drinks every day after work.

2. She calls in sick to work because of hangovers.

3. She has D.U.I’s or D.W.I’s.

4. Her friends and loved ones tell her that she needs to cut down on the drinking, or stop completely.

Take this self-test to see if you or if a woman you know is an alcoholic.

If you, or if a woman you know, is an alcoholic, what’s the next step?  Treatment.

There are many quality treatment centers to help you get the help that you or a loved one may need.  In some cases, an intervention is necessary.  Treatment centers that are geared towards women are recommended for women to get the care they need.  In this way treatment can be applied without male patients present.  In addition, treatment centers that offer dual diagnosis, which means they look at more than just the alcoholism, are also helpful for lesbian alcoholics.  For example, if a female is an alcoholic and a anorexic, both conditions would be treated.  One location that is female centered and that offers dual disorder treatment is Harmony Place.

Research online for a quality treatment center.  The Internet provides all the information you’ll need to get the help that you or a loved one needs for the treatment of alcoholism.
